HASS, or Highly Accelerated Stress Screening allows for a device or equipment to be subjected to a series of overstresses, which can identify weak design criteria that can show up as faults by accelerating fatigue.

HASS testing criteria involves specific stresses – random six-degree-of-freedom vibration and specific thermal change rates – in the combined environment necessary to identify potential risk factors in product design.

In a detailed HASS test, specific stresses are applied in a controlled, incremental fashion while the device or equipment being evaluated is monitored continuously for failures. This is a relatively fast method of identifying a weakness. Once the weaknesses are revealed, and mitigated, product manufacturers can bring their products to market faster, with a greater sense of security related to product life and potential risk.
