Section 10 – Waterproofness:
This section determines if equipment and or materials can withstand the detrimental effects from liquid water that is sprayed, condensing, dripping, or falling on the equipment under test.
- Condensing Water Drip Proof Test
- Drip Proof Test
- Spray Proof Test
- Continuous Stream Proof Test
Equipment Categories
Category Y – Equipment installed in locations where it is subjected to condensing water during its normal intended use and operation. Note the condensing water proof test procedure will apply.
Category W – Equipment installed in locations where it is subjected to falling water, this includes condensation, during normal intended operation. Note the drip proof procedure may apply.
Category R – Equipment installed in locations where it may be subjected to a driving rain or installed in an area that may be subjected to water that is sprayed on it from any angle. Note, the spray proof test procedure applies.
Category S – Equipment installed it may be subjected to the forces of a heavy stream of fluid such as external aircraft locations, where de-icing, washing or cleaning operations may be performed. Note the continuous stream proof test procedure will apply.
