EN IEC 55035 is a new standard and combines the EMC immunity requirements for Information Technology Equipment, consumer electronics such as audio and video equipment, and broadcast equipment within a new multimedia equipment (MME). This standard applies to multimedia equipment (MME) having a rated AC or DC supply voltage not exceeding 600 V. Use of EN IEC 55035 would be considered part of the requirements needed to show compliance to the EU EMC Directive 2014/30/EU, and is aligned with EN IEC 55032 for emissions.

This standard will replace the EN IEC 55024 for Information Technology Equipment and EN IEC 55020 for consumer electronics. This new standard contains both new tests and modified limit values. Due to technology convergence of the functions of MME, performance criteria shall be determined on a function-orientated basis rather than on an equipment-orientated basis.

A list of the applicable tests that are referenced on EN IEC 55035 are below:

IEC 61000-4-2                  Electrostatic discharge immunity test

IEC 61000-4-3                  Radiated, radio-frequency, electromagnetic field immunity test

IEC 61000-4-4                  Electrical fast transient/burst immunity test

IEC 61000-4-5                   Surge immunity test

IEC 61000-4-6                  Immunity to conducted disturbances, induced by radio-frequency fields

IEC 61000-4-8                  Power frequency magnetic field immunity test

IEC 61000-4-11                Voltage dips, short interruptions and voltage variations immunity tests

IEC 61000-4-20                Emission and immunity testing in transverse electromagnetic (TEM) waveguides

IEC 61000-4-21                Reverberation chamber test methods

ISO 9241-3:1992              Ergonomic requirements for office work with visual display terminals (VDTs) —         Part 3: Visual display requirements

IEEE Standard 802.3       IEEE Standard for Ethernet, Section Three

For MME that falls within the scope of EN IEC 300386 or any part(s) of EN IEC 301489 series, the requirements within these product specific/product family standards take precedence over the requirements within EN IEC 55035. This may be used for consideration if the product is required to meet the the EU Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU.
