Section 5 – Temperature Variation:
This section is based on monitoring the operational performance characteristics of equipment during exposure to extreme temperature variations between high and low operating temperatures.
Temperature Change Rates
Category A – Applies to equipment installed external or internal areas of the aircraft: 10 degrees Celsius minimum per minute.
Category B – Applies to equipment that is installed in areas that are non-temperature-controlled or partially temperature controlled internal sections of the aircraft: 5 degrees Celsius minimum per minute.
Category C – Applies to equipment that is installed temperature -controlled internal areas of the aircraft: 2 degrees Celsius minimum per minute.
Category S1 – Applies to equipment installed in external or internal areas of the aircraft. Rate of change is greater than 10 degrees Celsius per minute.
Category S2 – Applies to equipment installed in external or internal areas of the aircraft: Unknown rate of change greater than 10 degrees Celsius per minute.
